Bonded creatures are the best!

Another great release by Leia Stone. Lies that Bleed is the first in her Ember War series. The lead female is introduced while getting ready for the Lottery to claim a strong creature. She is giving us an insight without boringly listing everything out, learning while her conversation with her governess. Leia doesn't even tell the reader who is speaking until pages in. “Aisling Everheart, future empress, eldest of the ruler of Amersea him, and the most baddass woman in all the world.” Reading about the mythical creatures and how the goal of going into The Wilds is to bind with a creature made me want to think about what it would be like to have a beast who was bound to me. When Aisling enters the Wilds with the other citizens who drew in the lottery, it is explained what being bound to a creature completely means. Leia also introduced the other important characters in the story through the lottery.

Throughout the book, it had a lot of similarities to modern day. Aisling had a well loved motorcycle. But then magical creatures are a normal part of the world. As I was reading, I found a lot of great quotes. One of the ones that caught my eye was one that the Admiral said to Kohen at the end of the book. "You no longer have clearance to be around her." Damn, honestly to be told you can't be around the girl you are in love with. He took it with grace, but still.

It was a great read! I can’t wait for the next one!
